Our first conviction
Before Aerleum existed, the conviction was already there. Steven had just completed his PhD at the French Institute of Petroleum, in CO2 conversion. While developing a promising technology, he saw untapped potential in CO2 utilization — and knew it deserved more than academic papers. He joined Marble to turn that insight into action.
At the same time, Sébastien was backing some of the most ambitious entrepreneurs in climate tech at Bpifrance — knowing that one day, he’d make the leap himself.
The stars aligned. Paths crossed. Marble lit the spark.

Aerleum inception
Aerleum officially launched on June 26th, 2023 — in a small lab in Strasbourg, with support from Marble, Bpifrance, and Région Grand Est.
Our name says it all: AER-LEUM — as in fuel from air, not oil from the ground.
From day one, we moved fast. We focused on proving that our bifunctional material is capable of capturing and converting CO2 on the same surface. We synthesized and tested over 200 materials, pushed through technical roadblocks, and built the foundation of what’s now becoming a breakthrough technology.

More than a proof of concept
Once the material was validated, the challenge moved to the system.
We selected the most promising candidates, loaded them into a custom reactor, optimized the operating conditions — and ran the full integrated process with atmospheric CO2.
The result?
We made e-methanol from thin air. And proved that our vision could work, end-to-end.

To move from breakthrough to blueprint, we closed a $6M seed round backed by leading investors: 360 Capital Partners, HTGF, Bpifrance, Norrsken, and Marble.
This round marks more than just funding — it’s a vote of confidence in our mission, our team, and our roadmap. With this support, we’re building a first standardized production unit, designed to validate not just the science, but the economics.
Our goal: to prove that we can produce synthetic fuels at competitive cost, in a format that’s replicable, scalable, and ready for industrial deployment.

State of play
We’re now in the engineering and performance optimization phase, scaling up the technology from lab to pilot.
At the same time, we’re engaging with forward-looking partners in shipping, aviation, and hard-to-abate industries — sectors that urgently need drop-in, fossil-free alternatives.
Our fuels are tailored for them: clean, scalable, and compatible with existing engines and infrastructure. We see a clear path to decarbonize sectors where electrification isn’t an option — and we’re building the technology to make it happen.
